Moving from Wix starts with three separate decisions.
You can keep your domain without keeping the same website. You can also improve a Wix site without leaving Wix. Decide which problem you are solving, then plan the content, services and account responsibilities around that decision.

Choose the right kind of change
Wix explains that its working site depends on its own infrastructure, while the content you build belongs to you. Moving elsewhere therefore means agreeing a replacement implementation, rather than simply uploading the existing Wix site to a different host. Wix's hosting and export explanation.

Staying with Wix can be a sensible choice when its editing and integrated services meet your needs. Compare the actual proposal and responsibilities, rather than assuming a change of technology will improve results.
Keep the domain decision separate
A domain bought through Wix can point to an external website. Wix does not allow its domain nameservers to be changed; a destination that requires different nameservers may require a separate domain transfer. Moving a website is not a reason to replace working business email. Preserve the records and services it depends on, then test sending and receiving after authorized changes.
Ask for useful materials, not just “the website files”
Prepare a page list with the current URL, approved content, original images and downloads, the next action a visitor should take, and the person who can approve each item. Include existing redirect rules and any campaign links you still use.
For a Wix Blog, agree the retention method specifically: Wix currently says native blog-post export to other platforms is not available. That does not settle how your authorized provider can retain the content; it makes the method and completeness check a project decision. Wix Blog export status.
For each form, booking journey or protected area, record what happens after the visitor clicks. Identify the receiving system and account owner. A replacement page that looks right has not yet demonstrated that the business process works.
A concise request to your current provider
We are reviewing our website arrangements. Please confirm which accounts and services our business controls, what content and data can be retained, and the supported method for obtaining them. Please identify any assets or services needing a continuing licence, and any effect cancellation would have on our domain, email, forms, bookings or other connected services. We will agree the scope and timing of any change separately.
Agree the replacement before ending the current arrangement
Use the URL move worksheet to decide which addresses stay, redirect or retire. Ask the receiving provider to show representative pages and complete enquiry journeys before launch. Name the launch approver, the person implementing any DNS change and the rollback route.
