AI search, without the guesswork

Can AI search find your business?

Start with a question a customer would actually ask. Find the answer on your public page, check whether Google can show the page, then read any visibility data in the search engines' own tools. This is a way to examine evidence, not a promise of a citation, ranking or sale.

What the platforms say

Useful SEO foundations still apply.

Google and Bing use their search crawling and indexing foundations for AI search experiences. A page that gives a specific, useful answer has a better reason to exist than a batch of pages written for every possible wording of a prompt. Neither platform promises inclusion.

01 / GOOGLE SEARCH

Make the page eligible and worth reading.

Google says a page needs to be indexed, eligible for a Search snippet and included in its generative AI features to be eligible for AI Overviews and AI Mode. It recommends original, firsthand content and clear pages for people. Meeting the requirements still does not guarantee that Google will show a page.

02 / BING AND COPILOT

Make facts easy to identify.

Bing says crawlability, accurate indexing, clear page structure and content written for users support eligibility across Bing and Copilot. Its guidance favours specific, verifiable information. It says neither SEO nor work aimed at AI answers can guarantee citations.

Read Bing's Webmaster Guidelines

Two kinds of evidence

Read the page. Then read the reports.

These checks answer different questions. A clear passage helps a customer understand your offer. An official search report records what that platform observed. One does not prove the other.

What you can inspect on the page

  1. 01
    A real customer question

Use the wording a buyer would naturally ask.

  2. 02
    An exact visible passage

Copy the answer from the public page, with its URL.

  3. 03
    Your assessment

Decide whether that passage answers the question clearly, partly or not at all.

What the platforms can report

  1. 01
    Google URL Inspection

Record the page's indexing result and check its snippet controls yourself.

  2. 02
    Google AI impressions

Record page impressions in Search Console, if the report has data.

  3. 03
    Bing AI citations

Record visible citations in Bing Webmaster Tools, if available.

Keep page evidence and platform observations side by side. Neither lane predicts a future result.

Customer Question Evidence Check

Record one question. Keep the evidence honest.

This worksheet does not visit, crawl or test the URL you enter. Open the public page yourself, copy its exact answer and record only checks you have made. Your entries stay in this browser and are never sent to UpOnUp. Do not enter private customer information.

01 / THE PUBLIC PAGE

What does your website say?

Choose one page and one buyer question. Use a passage that a visitor can actually see, rather than an answer you intend to add later.

Try reading the passage without the rest of the page. Does it state the business, service and limitation clearly enough to answer the question? If it depends on hidden context or vague claims, mark it partial.

02 / CHECK MANUALLY

What can the platforms confirm?

Record the date range. Leave a field unchecked when the report is unavailable or you have not inspected it. A blank report does not by itself diagnose a fault.

Your entries stay in this browser.

YOUR EVIDENCE RECORD

Start with one real customer question.

No public page URL recorded yet.

PASSAGE YOU ENTERED
No passage recorded yet.

YOUR ASSESSMENTNot assessed yet

Choose clear, partial or missing after reading the page.

MANUAL ELIGIBILITY CHECKS

No Google checks recorded yet.

OFFICIAL PLATFORM OBSERVATIONS

No AI impression or citation counts recorded. This does not establish whether the page is eligible or shown.

This is a record of what you entered, not a crawler result, AI visibility score, audit certification or prediction.

A first-party UpOnUp example

A scope question with a visible answer.

Customer question: Is ecommerce included in the £799 website build?

Our live pricing page answers it under “Page count”:

Large catalogues, bespoke software, ecommerce and complex integrations need a separate scope.

That sentence tells a buyer a key limit before payment. It is a page-content example only. It does not demonstrate that Google or Bing has cited this page in an AI answer.

QUESTIONIs ecommerce included?VISIBLE PAGE EVIDENCEIt needs a separate scope.WHAT THIS PROVES

A visitor can find the stated limit on our pricing page.

WHAT IT DOES NOT PROVE

AI citations, search rankings, traffic or sales.

Read the results carefully

An observation is not an outcome.

Google and Bing report different things. Record each metric with its platform, URL and date range. Do not combine them into a single AI score.

A CLEAR ANSWER

Useful to a reader.

If the passage answers the question, it improves the page's usefulness. It does not establish indexing, retrieval or a future AI citation.

GOOGLE IMPRESSIONS

A link was shown.

Google's AI performance report counts times links to your site appeared in supported generative AI features. It does not show that anyone contacted you.

BING CITATIONS

A source was referenced.

Bing reports visible citations across supported AI experiences. Bing says those counts are not rankings, clicks, authority or proof that one page edit caused a change.

Do I need an llms.txt file or special AI schema?

Google says no. It does not use llms.txt for Google Search, and there is no required AI-specific schema. Our own short site guide is simply a route list; it is not an AI visibility claim. Follow useful ordinary SEO practices first.

What if my AI report is empty?

Google says a property may not show its report if there are too few AI impressions. Bing's grouped phrases may also be absent with sparse citation activity. Check indexing and the page answer separately. An empty field in this worksheet is unknown, not evidence of exclusion.

What to do next

Fix the missing answer for people first.

If a genuine customer question has no clear answer, improve the relevant page. If the answer is clear but platform data is absent, check eligibility and give the reports time to collect enough observations. Keep ongoing search work separate from a website build.
