Weathered natural garden stone and carefully finished paving with planting at the edges

Patios, paving & garden stonework.

Patios to sit on. Paths that connect. Stonework that belongs in the garden.

Alasdair leads the practical work, with attention to the groundwork, the setting out and the details you use every day.

Plan your stonework

Choose the surface.
Consider the whole garden.

Patios and seating

A useful terrace needs room for furniture and people, a comfortable route from the house and a finish suited to its setting.

Garden paths and steps

We consider where you actually walk, how surfaces meet and how changes in level can be handled in the overall design.

Edging and stonework

Well-placed edging defines beds and lawns. Garden stonework adds structure, using materials chosen for the site and the job.

Practical paving
and stonework details.

A patio needs more than attractive paving. The base, falls, joints and connections to surrounding surfaces all matter.

We discuss the feel and appearance of suitable materials, their maintenance and how they behave in wet conditions. Samples help you judge texture and colour before you decide.

Materials that suit
your home and garden.

There is no single best paving material for every Highland garden. The right choice depends on the setting, the intended use, ground conditions and what you want to maintain.

Natural stone

Variation in colour and texture gives each area its own character. We discuss the type of stone, finish and care requirements.

Porcelain paving

A consistent finish can suit a simple contemporary garden. Product suitability, slip characteristics and correct installation need careful consideration.

Gravel and mixed surfaces

Useful in the right locations, with edging, movement underfoot, access needs and ongoing maintenance considered from the start.

Stone and paving questions.

Can you work with existing paving?

We can assess the condition of the paving and its base. Reusing sound materials may be possible, but movement, poor falls or failed foundations need to be understood before work is agreed.

Does your guide price include preparation?

The guide figure covers labour, standard materials and straightforward preparation within the agreed scope. Removal, difficult access, substantial excavation or drainage work can change the price. Your written quote sets this out.

Can a path and patio be built together?

Yes. Planning them together helps resolve levels, materials and how the spaces connect, even if you choose to build them in phases.
