Making a home
in Scotland.
Italian food.
Scottish ingredients.
A place to feel welcome.
Angelo arrived in Scotland with little English and a willingness to work. His first kitchen job was at the sink. The shifts were long, the water was hot and most of his new words were shouted across a busy room.
He stayed. He learned the language, learned the kitchens and found that Scotland could feel like home. Cooking for other people became the surest way he knew to belong.
His first small venture did not last. Rising costs caught up with it, and closing the door was harder than opening it had been. There were years of steady kitchen work after that, with small suppers for friends whenever he could manage them. Nothing grand. Just a few people round a table and food he was happy to put in front of them.
Angelos grew slowly from those evenings. The restaurant brings together the cooking he grew up with and the place where he has made his life: handmade pasta, Scottish fish and a Sunday lunch that leaves room for another story.
A note from Angelo
I wanted to make somewhere people could come on an ordinary Tuesday as happily as on a birthday. You should eat well, feel comfortable and leave knowing you would be welcome back. That is enough for me.
